Houses with a former life

Plenty of places in Langkawi call themselves a kampung stay. Rumah Bendang actually is one — three houses in a living village, built from pieces of old Malaysia: timber window panels gathered from around Langkawi, wooden windows from a house in Melaka, a balcony railing that once belonged to a home in Negeri Sembilan, and roofs laid with singgora clay tiles the old way.

Rumah Uda goes furthest — an old timber house from nearby Kampung Tok Senik, taken down beam by beam and reassembled here with traditional joinery. Airbnb featured it in their Malaysia host stories for keeping Malay heritage alive.
